What is Hygina?

Hygina is a menstrual cup. Menstrual cups have been in use for more than 75 years. But recently, they’re growing in popularity by leaps and bounds, as more women realise that it’s a better, safer and far more environment friendly option.

How do I use it?

Hygina is a cup made of medical grade silicone. It has a wide mouth with a rim and little holes underneath the rim for suction. On the bottom end, it has a solid, ridged stem.

Hygina is used internally.

That means, you fold it and insert it inside your vagina when you have periods.

The mouth opens up when inside and the little holes create a vacuum that holds the cup in place. You use the stem to insert and pull it out. As and when the cup gets filled, you remove it, empty it, clean it and re-insert.

Some tips for usage

Take your time:

Like any new idea, it will take you a little time to get used to using Hygina. Don’t worry. Read the material and understand before you try it.

It is not a tampon:

You don’t have to insert Hygina the way you would a tampon. It’s easier. You only need to position it towards your tail bone.

It’s not rocket science:

Like you did with pads and tampons, you will understand how exactly to use Hygina, after one period cycle or two.

How do I clean and re-use it?

Hygina can be cleaned by simply washing it out with hot water and mild soap. It holds up to 30ml of liquid (that’s nearly your monthly flow). Clean it after removing it and re-insert.
